Taking on greater diplomatic purpose, Canada-based conductor Ken Hsieh's program on June 26th, 2015 with the state-owned Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra had a German theme.

Ken Hsieh has a unique base crossing continents and countries with a strong following on several continents including:

Japan - where he was trained and performs regularly;

Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra in Vancouver is a training orchestra started by him and born and educated in Canada;

Taipei - where parents live; and

Vienna - where he studied and performed.

China is far-sighted in their introduction of the congenial musician to their domestic audience. He will be back with them in October 2015.

VMO 12th Season Opening Concert

It was the world premiere of Composer-in-Residence Trevor Hoffman's Canadian Animal Suite, that aroused emotions to bring tears to the audience attending the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra's opening season concert on Sunday September 7th.

Dedicated to Maestro Ken Hsieh's late teacher, Morihiro Okabe the program showcased a variety to demonstrate the orchestra's rich, versatile and technical capabilites.

Soprano Yichan Shu dazzled the audience with her clear pitch and svelte figure in Freundliche Vision, Op. 48, No.1 by Strauss and Come Scoglio from Cosi fan tutte by Mozart.

The audience gave a standing ovation to the technical skills of Kaoru Kondou, concertmaster of the Kyushi Sumphony Orchestra for his performance of the familiar Violin Concert in D major, Op. 35 by Tschaikovsky.

The ultimate compliment by a member of the orchestra, Greg Passmore pictured here with his parents, who said that Maestro Ken Hsieh is so clear in his direction and makes it so easy to play.

More than 500 came out to attend and with a season opener like this we cannot wait till the next performance by this exceptionally talented orchestra who is clearly good at showcasing young talent. Bravo! Mastro Ken Hsieh, we could not be more proud.

Thousands turned out according to the Vancouver Sun to listen to Maestro Ken Hsieh conduct the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra with the backdrop of spectacular Coal Harbour and the North Shore mountains. >> MORE

The following day the spectacular celebration of lights with fireworks over English Bay where Japan competed with United States. Wow!
